Book Report on The Quick and Easy Way to Effective Speaking Author: Dorothy Carnegie Revised from: Public Speaking and Influencing Men in Business by Dale Carnegie Introduction Public speaking is one of the core skills that give meaning to careers, relationships, and personal development. The revised version of The Quick and Easy Way to Effective Speaking, by Dorothy Carnegie, translates the teachings of Dale Carnegie's descendants into a language that can be understood by a present-day reader. Such a book provides practical advice on controlling fear and delivering speeches that hold the attention of listeners in some structured and intriguing form. He tries to give an idea about how one should face this ordeal through practical applications which have already been used in different cases. Summary of Key Concepts I. Developing Confidence in Public Speaking One of the most notable ideas advanced for the material is that talkativeness and fluency in speaking before a congrega...

Week 7

Part one We planned our Final Research Video Project by collaborating in Google Docs and Google Drive. We set the research outline, script, and video structure, and then continued our communications using Discord and Zoom for those long discussions. Progress and tasks were kept track of using Trello so that no one was off course. Everything went on pretty well during the process, but due to some clashes of schedules, it was very hard to get it all well aligned in terms of contributions. This could be improved next time by setting some structured deadlines and regular check-ins to keep the workflow at a good pace, averting last-minute rushes. Using a shared content calendar would also help in organizing tasks more effectively. Part Two This week’s lectures and readings were very informative about the revolutionary power of AI and some of its ethical dilemmas. I found this TED talk very interesting, mainly because it showed that today science is no more being pushed by AI into constan...

Week 6

Part 1: Help Your Teammates to Develop Capstone Ideas This past week, our team focused on machinery development of their capstone project themed, "Bridging the Digital Divide: Reusable Rockets and Satellite Connectivity." The discussion highlighted how reusable rocket technology is bringing down costs for launching satellites into space, which can eventually help enable high-speed internet in underserved parts of the world. We detailed economic impact, company profiles of SpaceX, OneWeb among others, and chances for bridging the digital divide in either rural or developing places. Naturally, we also posed the expected challenges those of space debris, regulatory hurdles, and infrastructural limitations related to the project under study. After that was cleared up and our approach refined, we were given the green light for this project from our instructor. Part 2: Weekly Learning Reflections From the career guide, I have learned about the strong portfolio, networking, and t...

Industry Expert Interview – Exploring Career Paths and Industry Trends

An interview with Sohan Thapa, a front-end developer at GoodRx focusing on creating high-performance, accessible web applications that align with the company's mission to make healthcare affordable and user-friendly. I was interested in the view of a professional front-end developer, so an interview was conducted with him to get some insights into the careers.GoodRx does have quite well-designed and efficient digital platforms, so I wanted to know from this professional about his career journey, obstacles encountered, and skills required to excel in the domain. He shared that he began his journey in front-end development from a solid foundation in JavaScript, CSS, and UI/UX principles. He further said that staying adaptable with continuously learning new technologies is key in a changing world of front-end development. When he started his career, he faced the main problem with how to chase down fast-evolving frameworks like React, Vue, Angular. He said that employers expect flexi...

Part One: Support and Comment on Teammates' Goals Part Two: Possible Capstone Ideas While watching some Capstone presentations, three possible project ideas came to me. Project one is an AI-Powered Resume Analyzer, a website which would help job seekers optimize their resumes with the help of artificial intelligence. The second was an Interactive Data Visualization Dashboard which would show real-time climate change information to the user through different live, dynamic visualizations. Third, a Gamified Learning Platform for Coding Challenges: a website-based tool that motivates users with coding exercises, leaderboards, and achievements. Each project is somewhat aligned with my front-end development aspirations and seems to be intertwined with AI, Data Visualization, or Gamification. ...

Week 4

Part One: Set Your Educational Goals My primary goal during the study for my undergraduate degree in CS is to have a strong base in all the computer science concepts and programming, developing software while working on my problem-solving skills. It is not simply my desire to graduate with a degree, but also to gain some practical experience from projects, internships, and personal efforts through learning.  After my bachelor's program, I aim to go for certifications, coding challenges, and real-world applications to remain trend-savvy according to the industries. By the time I leave college, I want to feel very confident in my technical and problem-solving abilities and ensure I am ready for the job market.  Part Two: Set Your Career Goals In the long run, I want to end up as a front-end developer at a technology-driven company working on usable applications and interactive web experiences. In the short term, I want to gain an internship or entry-level job where I can ...
